ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ

ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನಾದ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನು ವಿಚಿತ್ರವೀರ್ಯನ ಪತ್ನಿ ಅಂಬಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಸನಿಂದ ಜನಿಸಿದವನು. ಇವನ ಪತ್ನಿ ಗಾಂಧಾರದೇಶದ ಸುಬಲನ ಪುತ್ರಿ ಗಾಂಧಾರೀ. ಗಾಂಧಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇವನು ದುರ್ಯೋಧನ, ದುಃಶಾಸನರೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ ನೂರು ಗಂಡುಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನೂ ದುಃಶಲೆಯೆನ್ನುವ ಓರ್ವ ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದನು. ಗಾಂಧಾರಿಯು ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನು ವೈಶ್ಯೆಯೋರ್ವಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯುಯುತ್ಸು ಎಂಬ ಮಗನನ್ನೂ ಪಡೆದನು.

My steps in understanding a character in Mahabharata

Translate Mahabharata from the Sanskrit texts available into your mother tongue. You can use the available translation too, if that translation also gives you all the sanskrit manuscript on which the translation is based. Because, not only the Shlokas differ depending on the available Sanskrit manuscript (there is ample evidence), the translations of the exactly looking verses differ depending on the translator. Make sure that the translation is complete, at least the main narration (conversation between Suta Puranika and Shaunaka and other Rishis assembled in that Dirgha Satra at Naimisharanya). I had to do my own translation from Sanskrit to Kannada, as I did not get the Kannada translation that met the desired qualification.
From the translation of your choice, distill the main story - the story of what happened to the Pandavas and the Kauravas, including what happened before they were born, and what happened to them later, after they were gone from the Earth. Also know who were their ancestors, and what happened to them before or after they were gone from the Earth, as appearing in the Main Story. This distilled part excludes the side-stories, long spiritual discussions. The Main Story should also include any reference to any conversation between Suta Puranika and Shaunaka and the Rishis assembled in that Dirgha Satra at Naimisharanya, i.e., from the first chapter to the last chapter of the Sanskrit manuscript.
Distill further, from that main story, all the main references to that character, mainly the events the character was directly involved with, and the conversations to which the character was directly exposed - everything that the character said or heard. Everything that was said by others about him before his birth or after his death should also be included. Here is an example for the character Dhritarashtra.
